When youre overwhelmed and exhausted, what do you need to do first?

Its ok for our kids to have tantrums and meltdowns, but as adults if you feel you want to hide away or are feeling exhausted, then what do you do?

Think of an aeroplane's safety & evacuation . We have to put the oxygen mask on ourselves FIRST in order to help your child.

So, you can only care for your child adequately once you have the oxygen on.I love this analogy, but in real life, if it does happen its very rare.
Particularly concerning is the numbers of single parents I hear trying to cope and expressing they dont know what will happen to their child if something was to happen to them.

So the first thing i would advise is to be easy on yourself, try & get extra sleep, some early morning sunlight, gentle exercise and try & eat regularly. Put on some uplifting music that you like. If after2 - 3 days your mood or tiredness hasn't shifted, then it is a very good idea to get a well person checkup with your GP.

There can be other reasons for exhaustion and low mood other than stress, or depression. A common one is low iron, which is easily identified & rectified.
